The Tenets of Faith

Blue Star teaches a set of seven Tenets, often referred to as the “Tenets of Faith”. These can be seen as seven attitudes that the Tradition values and wishes its members to strive to apply to all aspects of their lives. The tenets are summed up in the following list:

  • Balance
  • Trust
  • Tolerance
  • Reincarnation
  • Harmony
  • Humility
  • Learning

This list as it is taught today is a slight modification of a list of tenets originally presented in the writings of Sybil Leek, an English witch who came to prominence in the late 1960s and early ’70s. An older list of mostly different tenets is also in circulation within the Tradition, primarily as a historical curiosity and source for consideration, but the above list comprises the Tenets as they are currently taught in the majority of Blue Star.

These tenets also are one of the main identifiers of Blue Star, being used in few other traditions of the Craft (excepting of course those who descend from Sybil Leek.) The seven tenets are also one source of the most common identifying symbol of Blue Star: the seven-pointed star or septagram. Many initiates of Blue Star bear the septagram as a tattoo, often on the left inner wrist, where it can serve as an object of meditation on the Tenets of Faith, among other things.
